I noticed for the first time tonight I've got some stray current in my tank. I happened to have my toe on a metal carpet transition with my hand in the tank, and got a little zap.

I think my top off float switch is the culprit, because when I remove it from the tank, no more zap.

Any one have any advice on how to deal with this? My float switch is wired to a generic water pump running on 110. The pump has a grounded plug.

I may jumping to a conclusion but how did you wire the float? You didn't just spice it into the pump? This site shows one safe way of wiring a float.
