Just noticed these today. Just wondering if anyone else has seen them before or knows anything about them.

They could be tunicates. Do they look like little white pineapples (hairy white elongated spheres with a "fuzzy" top)?

its not a good idea to get a mandarine to eat a few pods--once the pods are gone it will starve unless supplied with living copodops daily. the best way to do that is through setting up a refugium
check this site for idenfication:

they don't last long when you get fish in there, are eaten before they can increase their numbers--that is why you need a refugium to keep the population growing and available for a mandarine goby
