Canopy Finish

I just built a new canopy for my 125 and I would like to finish the outside with a glassy laquer type finish. Can anybody instruct me on how to do this. Thanks

Did you paint, or stain?
I like using minwax fast dry polyuerethane myself, can get semi or gloss
