Mini DSB in my sump?

I have a area in my sump about 8''x14'' I was thinking about adding 3 or 4 inches of sand,will this work like a dsb or is it jsut a waste of time?

I did exactly that (pretty much the same sized area too) in my sump before I added a separate refugium. I didn't notice a difference, but I can't imagine it would hurt. I'd do it. 4" is about the minimum depth you want for a DSB, though, and that's assuming sugar-sized sand. I'd shoot for 4-6" on the depth.
