what are the differences is it only the tackiness or is the construction stronger after curing as well?

While not an "official answer", from my experience the purple stuff is stickier and easier to mix up. The gray stuff is a bit cheaper, but more difficult to mix (I usually have to zap it in the microwave first). I prefer the purple stuff for mounting frags, but either one seems to work fine for joining small pieces of rock together. For the small difference in price, I usually buy the purple.

I was not sure what was being asked.. I have only used/seen the purple stuff.

stuff i have now is grey my LFS is out of the purple that is why i asked, i ended up with the grey and it works fine
