I just ordered a III (upgrading from a Jr) and was hoping that I could use this USB Wireless adapater I have -- has a cable to convert from USB to Ethernet so it should work.
I use the Buffalo ethernet adapter (I think WLI-TX4-G54HP). Works right out of the box and iirc about $25 cheaper than the Linksys gaming adapter which had many issues on my set up (resetting, losing settings, dropping connection - even though I also use linksys router).

Can you get them anymore; I remember that Buffalo is under injunction and cannot sell wireless products in the US:
I found this:
http://www.buffalotech.com/products/wireless/wireless-g-mimo-performance/wireless-g-mimo-performance-ethernet-converter/
I use a LinkSys-G Game Adapter and have not experienced the problems indicated above (my connection had been up over a year with no downtime). The dropped connections issue was fixed in the AC3 software; keep alive issue if I remember correctly.
Not saying that LinkSys is the only or best choice, it's just a choice.

Can we use something like this

There is a Ethernet to USB cable that comes with it

The link takes me to a 'Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter'; is this correct?
I've never heard of an Ethernet to USB cable but my 1st impression would be that you cannot use this device since the AC3 doesn't support USB.

They have adapters that turn USB into Ethernet ports ... you would need a female-to-female USB adapter to plug the wireless stick into the adapter and then lan cable to go from the adapter to the ACIII
Total in parts - $40? ... less than that Gaming Adapter

I still don't see this working; the AC3 is Ethernet; how are you going to connect Ethernet into a USB device. You can't plug 2 USB devices into each other unless you have some sort of USB (powered) hub (you need to have power for the USB devices).
How are you going to configure the USB devices?

I know its ethernet ... they have little adapters that have a male USB on one end and a ethernet port on the other ... obviously the ACIII will connect via cat5 to this adapter. Then slap a Female/Female USB adapter on the other side --- this will allow the wireless USB stick (as in the link above) to plug in.

How would you configure the USB stick and where would you get power for the USB devices?

GAH .. you are right im not factoring in that the ethernet port wont pass power like a USB port
There really isnt anything to configure on the stick tho -- much like that gaming adapter since it is all done in the ACIII ...
if only the stick was powered :(

A USB device will not work; you need a game adapter. Anyone will most likley work just be sure what you purchase is compatible with your router; the person where you purchase your game adapter should be able to help you.

I don't know all the Netgear devices but if it is 802.11G compatible it should work with the LinkSys. I suspect that Netgear may also have a game adapter if you want to stay with the same brand.
