Is this the new temp probe? I remember the old one, the head is very small compare to this one. I can't push the end into the controller. It goes in half way then it stuck.

That is the new one. I had to get a replacement from the other style as well. The original temp probe sucks! My new one works perfectly.

not so perfect when I can't push it into the hole :D ... Not sure if this is the connector problem or the jack on the controller.

I had to push mine in really hard to get it to go, but it finally did.

With the latest connectors we are using the fit can be snug, but you should definitely be able to plug it in with a firm push.

?- is the black cap supposed to stay on these probes?

We recommend that you leave the rubber cap on.

I asked this question because my temp new AC jr read 85 deg. when my tank was at 79 deg. So I took the cap off and the plastic was cracked. Will this cause problems? I recalibrated the temp and seems to read accurately now, but don't want to have anything go wrong since I am running my heaters and fans off of the AC jr.

Curt, I push it in really hard. It went in a little bit but didn't work. The controller showed the same temp as without the probe. I had a hard time pulling it out after that. Are you around this weekend or today? I can bring the controller to your place so you can try it. I live in SJ.

Wow I didn't know that. I was going to remove it. Is it in the instruction somewhere?

Are the original temperature probes being replaced? I have the old version.

The vast majority of users have no trouble with the original temperature probe, so no we are not replacing the older probes.

From my observation, the temp probes that went bad (at least on this board) all seemed to be somewhat new purchases. This makes me think that a bad batch of temp probes went out from the original manufacturer. The older probes probably were a "good" batch and don't have a problem.

My original probe went bad about two months after I purchased my AC3, neptune was great about exchanging for a new and improved probe, no questions asked (except for requesting the old probe and a copy of my original receipt).

Everything seemed to be handled as it should have been, although it did seem strange all the talk about users being the ones who damaged the probes. I don't think I even touched my probe after I installed it in my tank, it was away from pumps and not banging into anything, just a gentle flow of water past the probe.

Overall this seems to be a non-issue. Probe breaks --> neptune fixes it --> back to normal.

The one important thing is programming in a way that protects your tank. No matter what controller you use.
