View Full Version : Quick plumbing question...

I am setting my tank back up after a move and want to try to use small pipes and fittings if possible. I used all 2" stuff last time and I want to use smaller. My main question is:

I had the tank set up with the "herbie" method. I have 2" bulkheads and used 2" gate valve for the main drain but it was only maybe about 1/16 open to match the return pump. I thought maybe I could reduce down to 1" from the bulkheads and use a 1" gate vavle. It would save me lots of money and I can get a hold of them so much easier than 2" ones. Any reason this would be bad??? I don't think it makes any difference since a 2" drain is such overkill for my pump anyways. I think even a 1" gate valve would only be about 1/2 way open.

Thanks!

Depending on what flow rate you have it should work fine. A one inch line should be able to handle 1000 to 1500 gph without any problems, if you are doing more flow than that you might have problems.
