The only thing you guys will see in a current FTS is a shot full of RB, AEFW, bite marks, and discolored frags :(:sad1:

BreadmanMike
04/19/2008, 04:39 PM
Do you know who gave you the RB's or the AEFW?

RB's are easy to get rid of, but the AEFW is terrible bro. What are your plans?

tbone28
04/19/2008, 04:42 PM
RB - yes
AEFW -
Ultimately, it's my fault. I'm a lazy reefer when it comes to prophylaxis, and now I'm paying for it.

RB - interceptor
AEFW - have already done TMPCC & Revive dip. Awaiting delivery of Levamisole.

Any suggestions?

BreadmanMike
04/19/2008, 04:46 PM
I've never had AEFW, and I hope I never get them. If I did I would probably throw my SPS in the garbage and be done with them for a year or so.
Are you going to pull all the sps out to treat?

tbone28
04/19/2008, 04:52 PM
Still thinking about that. Luckily, I don't have any colonies. MY SPS stands for "Small Pieces of Shzz" :D

It should be easy to treat. I think I have 6 or 7 frags that have noticeable damage, so I'm not sure yet if I want to pull out everything.

kar93
04/19/2008, 04:54 PM
Did you treat the whole tank or seperate frags like shown in Melevs article?

BreadmanMike
04/19/2008, 04:56 PM
My SPS stand for the same as you. You need a magnifying glass to see mine.

What is the suggested way to rid your tank of them?

tbone28
04/19/2008, 04:56 PM
for RB, i'm going to treat the whole tank.

for AEFW, thus far, I've only dipped the 6 or 7 frags I mentioned. When I get the levamisole, I'll decide then if I want to dip and QT just those or pull out all of them - I really don't want to, though.

Mike - there are several methods. I haven't read too much on it yet, but from what I've read so far:

Dip in TMPCC and/or Revive cleanser
Some use fluke tabs
Some use Levamisole
I think some use Lugol's solution?

Then you keep the dipped frags in a QT tank for 6 weeks I think. The rationale for taking out ALL frags is to eliminate any food source for the AEFW. They thus die off just in case the dip didn't get them, or missed scraping off some eggs.

How about some update pics of the fishes

BreadmanMike
04/19/2008, 05:03 PM
Do you have the means to QT them all for 6 weeks? I would think that would be best to avoid any further incidents with them.

Did you ever find out why they changed the design of the bubble plate on your skimmer?

tbone28
04/19/2008, 05:05 PM
I've always had a 20L QT tank. I *suppose* I should have put it to use :o

I'm happy with my skimmer, so lost interest in finding out why

So you guys can see the ich, in addition to the RB and AEFW?

When it rains, it pours. lol.

My powder blue and powder brown have developed ich. I'm feeding heavy, and soaking food in selcon, zoe, and garlic, hoping they fight through it.

Sorry to hear that, Im sure with your help theyll pull through.

tbone28
04/19/2008, 06:59 PM
Thanks, everyone. It's been about a week. All the other fish look fine. The powder blue and brown were the latest additions, so maybe they haven't acclimated fully yet. The good news is they're eating well and active. I think they'll pull through. In addition to feeding heavy, I've been doing 10% water changes every other day to hopefully keep the water column clean. This method has worked for me in the past. I find that trying to catch them for QT stresses them out even more.

Victor - the baby clown is MIA

So the plan is to get my fish healthy first. Then I'll treat the tank for RB. I don't want to treat for RB now, since I will have to turn off my skimmer to do so. I don't want the water to dirty while my fish have ich.

Time to T-bone this thread :p

Kane, are you going to med school?

cbui2
04/20/2008, 01:00 AM
sorry tbone to see its raining in sunny CA during the summer time :D. if i was you do not attempt to removed the fishes as this will cause more stress especially PBT along brown tang. catching them will not be easy and chasing them all around the tank will come down with cut and bruises. I QT my PBT in hypo for 6 weeks then entering main display, he will start fighting no matter what since its in his blood. feeding 3 times daily tons of vitamins, garlic and nori. i also give them 3 times weekly zoecon which has omega fatty acid, 10% weekly water change and he will pull through as you know he's a pig that eats all day. my PBT was covered in ich for solid 3 months along with all my other fishes. frequent feeding will build their immune system up and fight the ich. i would pull only the affected ones and treat them in QT, i would be scare to treating the entire tank for so many reasons.
congrats on the split again, no more tbone.

tbone28
04/20/2008, 01:05 AM
Thanks, Bart. I'm actually do pretty much as you've suggested. I don't plan to fish out the 2 affected tangs. I'm feeding heavy, and soaking every evening meal in selcon, zoe, and garlic.

I'm feeding in the morning before work, when I get back from work, and again during the evening.

Nori is placed before work. After work, the nori is replaced as soon as the previous sheet is finished. They can go through 3-4 sheets between dinner and bedtime.

I'm doing 10% water changes every other day.

cbui2
04/20/2008, 01:18 AM
even when i rip my entire tank apart last year trying to catch the fishes. this was the biggest mistake as it stress a lot of my little fishes and only the hardy red sea fishes made it out alive. thats why i am so afraid of adding any new addition since the PBT is so aggressive. he is worst then sohal IMO. i had a fish order came in the other day and place the copperband in my display and guess what the PBT came and harass him where he could even swim anymore, finally after 2 days he let up. i think 10% every other day might be too much as your corals are used dirty water :D. they will become sumo fighters with that much nori everyday

04/20/2008, 01:25 AM
Wow.. sorry to hear the bad news.

tbone28
04/20/2008, 01:27 AM
my tangs are not even scared of my hand anymore. As soon as I put my hand in the tank, they know i'm replacing the Nori. They swim circles around my hand.

As they start eating it, I'll touch the Sohal. He doesn't even care! He's too busy eating that nori.

I agree that chasing around the fish will stress them out. I'm not about to take out all my rock just to catch the fish.

In my last 240g peninsula, my tangs could see me from across the room. When I opened the freezer door, they all grouped together and stared at me from across the room! :D If I opened the refrigerator door, they know I'm messing with them :p

Then, as I start walking toward the tank with food, they will follow me around all 3 sides of the tank, cuz they know I feed them on the opposite side. Very cool! :)

cbui2
04/20/2008, 01:46 AM

Jflip2002

Those are not for old people, but they are BBS LM replicas lol. Cant go wrong with Pilot Sport rubber though. I dislike how every MBZ you find will be an automatic. Benz are nice cars, just not my taste though. I do have to admitt that the new C63 AMG looks F'in amazing.

You said youre an AMG guy Terry, is that an E55?

tbone28
04/20/2008, 11:06 AM
They are Work Wheels - 3 piece japanese race wheels. Find me a 1-piece and we'll call it a replica. Go tell an import guy that the Work wheels he has on his car is a replica, and see how he reacts. The BBS LM's are nice, but they don't offer a deep enough lip for me.

Not all Benz's are autos.

BreadmanMike

Works are nice wheels. But they did take their design from the BBS LM. None the less still very nice wheels, and 100x nicer than I have on my car lol. Kinda interested in what car that is. I enjoy looking at a nice MBZ, even though Im a BMW fan.

tbone28
04/20/2008, 11:14 AM
Joe, you can say the same for so many wheels. The BBS LM is a classic design. If you can find a Konig mesh race wheel, then I will call that a "replica". Life is not about buying "what's authentic" or not. It's about buying what pleases you.

Price wise, the BBS and Work are not too far apart, so I could have chose either. The Work, although has the same basic design, looks slightly different than the LM, and has a 3.5" rear lip. I found the Work wheel more attractive for my tastes.

That's the only pic you get, Joe.

I wasn't really explaining myself properly -my bad- When i said about the mercedes the ones that are regulary seen in the UK are the old types or the new ones but have wood inside which makes it look like a morris minor (if you know what that is) The sport ones i like but for some reason 99% of the 4 doors seem to be driven by retired men. I do like Mercedes the E class is one of the ones i really like. Ive never owned a Escalade so my opinion is just from what i see and hear about them. Youre right with that GSM. BUUTTT, Mercedes are also bigger with the plush/comfort factor. You wouldnt believe how many people (yes, usually older lol) come into the dealership complaining their BMW doesnt ride as soft or as quiet as their last MBZ did. I mean unless you get an E63 or something (new 7 series), your ride will be a little stiffer than a benz, and it will handle better. You will be hard pressed to find a Benz that performs like a BMW, but hard pressed to find a BMW that rides as soft and cushy as a MBZ.

So there are pros and cons with both companies. It juts so happens that the pros of BMWs cater to the younger crows, while the MBZ caters towards the older crowd.

Ok, the M6, I forgot about that. how can you NOT like the M6? That is a sexy sexy car. Im not too big of a fan of the 5s headlights, and the 7 is just too big. Its amazing how huge these cars have gotten over the generations.

I own an E30 and an E46, and its amazing the size difference. The new E90 3 series are the same dang size as the E38 7 series. Its kinda sickening.

Also another I forgot is the new 1 series, that thing is the size a 3 is SUPPOSED to be. I just wish the 1 series E87 hatch came to the states. I know the 134D should be here this fall.

Im ok with any European cars for the most part. If you own a car, it should be European, and if you own a truck it should be american. End of story IMO.

Kane - m6 has a nice profile, front and butt are ugly

I was just making a point by saying that current BMW's are ugly - Namely, it's often times best to keep negative comments to yourself, as you don't know who your comments are affecting. I'm sure that there are some diehard BMW followers who were stung by my comments.

I know we are all passionate about many things in life, and it's great to show your compassion for those things you love, but you really need to be careful with your choice of words when you show your love for a product by bashing other lines ;)

Those 2 M3s are also on my list of bmw favs. I had been hoping, year after year, that they would extend the exhaust pipes on the E46 closer to the edges. They're too centered for me. The e39 m5 is a great car until the carbon problems show its ugly head or your vanos goes out then your looking at repair bills that are more than the car is worth. The new m3? who the hell would pay $70k plus for a 3er? Ours are sitting on the lot.

Thats an ignorant statement. First off, dealers arent supposed to sell their M3s yet lol. So THATS why its still on the lot. We have 3 in the rear of the dealership which are already sold. But maybe it has to do with how our dealership is ran in a higher end part of the nation as opposed to.... well... Georgia.

$70k+ for a 3er? I dont know where youre getting that from. One, its not even in the 3 series realm, its in the M realm. Two, they start out at about $60k (A hair under actually). So if you compare the E92 M3 to the E46 M3, they are roughly the same price, and you get almost 100 hp more. So really, how is that NOT a good deal?

As for the 7 not being an E63, youre right, its the new 6. The 7 is an E65 WHOOPS. I threw out 10 different generations, I got one wrong, big deal.

As for the vanos going bad on an M5, it is not more than the car is worth. The day I see a $30,000 vanos repair RO will be the first lol. Ive seen many many M5s in my day. A few techs actually have them at the dealership. They require regular maintenance, which every car does. You would have Vanos problems with every car, assuming they were advanced enough to have VANOS.

Nice broad ignorant statement though

I've had a few e30s, one a built a stroker 2.7l with full suspension mod that I autocrossed quite a few times abeat e36 m3s on a regular basis (on the autox track). I've seen a number of e39 m5 come in needing both vanos and the ROs bill totaling will over the $12k mark, thats a lot of dough when I know people that have bought the car in the $20-22 range and they need repair bills that are half of what that paid for the car and the milage is under 85k. I still like BMWs, only the older models. I think the e46 is the last good model along with the e39 6cyl. I personly know 2 people that have sold their e39 m5 to buy the cts v which has a much stronger power plant than the m5. Let me ask you something, Have you ever built an engine? How long have you been a parts guy?

Dude, Joe, didn't we just talk about not bashing others? That's not a nice thing to say. I'm sure there are good and bad parts in every state.

I'm OK with you justifying your love for BMW's, but please don't talk like that - at least not on this thread.

Tony - I just picked up a used single stage one here on the classifieds. They come up from time to time. I recently saw a Ranco dual stage for $75 shipped. useful if you're gonna run a chiller and heater.

The one in your link looks like the one I bought. I'm not sure of the model number though.

The main reason I didn't buy an all-in-one controller was cost. I initially was not running a Ca reactor and did not use a controller for my heater. I just use basic timers for my lights.

In hindsight, with the money I've spent on separte controllers, I've actually spent more money and have more stuff under my stand now!

gotcha... i've been running a lighthouse controller which has ph, orp, temp, etc. all wi-fi accessible (has a little http server in it). what bums me out is that the one bug in the thing caused *everything* to go haywire when i moved recently. the first 2 days i was away from the tank... the lights didn't go on, etc. i'm sure the other bigger brands are more reliable... but it made me wonder whether having some redundancy didn't make sense.

so was it crazy expensive to stay with the bionic on that large a tank? is that the reason you went with the ca rx? i'm thinking i'll stay 2-part with my litermeter 3 until i can't stand it anymore and switch over. i found a TOTM from a while back (800+g) that ran on the balling method and have to say that i'd rather not have to learn more equipment if i can help it.

I used a reactor on my last tank. One of my goals in setting up this tank was "keeping things simple" - mainteance and equipment. This was why I went B-Ionic.

I dosed it by hand every morning before work. I was pretty good at remembering, too! I didn't want to buy and dosing pumps for it, as that didn't fit my goals.

But, my wife and I like to vacation often, and i started wondering who would dose this while I was gone. My best friend lives 5 minutes away from me, and he always babysits my fish, but he's not a reefer. He can feed the fish, but I didn't want to worry about him dosing the 2-part...thus, back to a calcium reactor.

I can say this piece of equipment sure makes life easy. It really is a set and forget piece of equipment.

Hey, quick off-topic question, while we've got Marc's attention. I'm sure you won't mind Terry, it's reef related. ;) Plus it's easier to post it here rather than have it get lost in one of the main forums. :)

I just took a pond in my yard apart. The liner is apparently made of black poly. It's been in the ground longer than we've been in the house. So I don't know what's been inside it besides a fountain, rainwater and those Mosquito Dunk thingies. Might it be safe to use it inline with my system if I clean it several times with bleach and water and let it bake in the sun for several days?

Thanks!

It's a rigid pond liner, like a tub. It's roughly 5' x 3' x 2'. I was thinking of sectioning it off for the skimmer and maybe a RDSB. Then I'd have it gravity feed the RM stock tank.

Mark, I have the levamisole on order. Hasn't arrived yet. In the meantime, I dipped the (noticeably) affected frags in TMPCC and Revive. The TMPCC is pretty harsh stuff. Those frags browned out on me pretty instantaneously!

And yes, this thread moves a lot - it sure moved a lot today

Not important Terry. I am not all here today :D. So what are you planning to do? Are you going to take all the SPS out of your tank and treat it in the QT or you just dip it and put it back? Need to be careful my friend. There are many people with AEFW nowadays.

Haven't decided yet, Steve. Got too many things going on with my tank and busy at work. Lot of stuff going through my mind.

Already have the Interceptor. Still waiting for the levamisole to arrive, so I have until then to decide how to proceed.

I was never a Dodge fan. But after the first ride in my brother's SRT8, I was sold. Before I knew it, he was trying to get me to buy the Cherokee SRT8, which is also sweet. But again, I've never been a car buff. I'm not crazy about the interior and yeah there are lighter, faster cars than the Charger SRT8. But this thing is no slouch. It doesn't take much to make your head snap back. :smokin:

Thanks Mark and Terry. Well it turns out the liner is made of fiberglass. I was too busy to take a close look at it, especially the underside, until today. It's really thin though (roughly 1/8"), but it's sturdy and has a good 2" lip around the top. The dimensions are actually 72" x 36" x 18". If I can clean this thing out well enough, I can skip the RM 100 stock tank. Thoughts?

tbone28
04/21/2008, 01:32 PM
I would still buy something that hasn't been in the ground - whether new or used. I would be concerned with stuff leaching in. Just me, though.

paulthomas
04/21/2008, 02:02 PM
I hear ya. But fiberglass is virtually non-porous. As long as the gel coat is in good shape and there are no pin size holes, I should be good to go. I'll probably baffle a few sections off for the skimmer and RDSB and apply another layer of gel coat to be sure it's water tight. Also, since I'll only be partially filling it, the fact that it's above ground and will have no side wall support shouldn't be a problem. I'm gonna clean this thing out today and run a little water test on it.

BTW, I priced fiberglass pond liners like this one and they cost about $750 new. :eek2:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/HouseHead/Plants%20Around%20the%20House/P5290472.jpg

We took it out because of the kids. It's a hazard for them to be running around it while they're so young. Plus it opens up the garden side of the yard more. We're planning on filling in some of the planted areas with grass too. It's incredibly beautiful when in bloom throughout the seasons, so I feel terrible doing it. But we simply don't have the time for the upkeep.

Here are some old pics from when it was in its prime, before the riffraff moved in:

It's supposed to be non-toxic for fish and will only fade in color when exposed to UV rays. It also comes in tan.

I felt the same way about our singleplayer. we were both making a technology leap to a new engine and developing a game at the time so our pipeline was not as efficient. also the core gameplay wasn't final until only a few months before ship, which made it difficult to really design levels around the gameplay like we are capable of, and adding to playability. thankfully we have the core gameplay was established and can focus more on content now :)

cod4 is an excellent game. I enjoyed parts of halo3 but haven't spent as much time there.

I just realized Terry isn't supporting RC (http://reefcentral.com/premium_membership.php) like he should. I'm guessing he can't post for 4 more hours.

You get all the issues resolved with the Unreal Engine?
I want to see Crysis get ported, or something based on the Cryengine.. Never played the game, but saw some user created stuff on youtube and it was just awesome..
