Hi i'm looking to get a small wrasse for my 29gal. I was thinking of a 6 line but i want something rare and exotic since my tank is full of rare stuff. So any suggestion for a small rare wrasse???

Leopard will get too big for a 29.

FourLine, Six Line, Eight Line, possum, Carpenter's Flasher, any of the Halichoeres (like a Yellow Wrasse).

Mystery Wrasse, I have one in my 28, got him small and while he will grow I am keeping the tank stocking low.

Awesome fish:

Yeah i'm leaning towards the mystery wrasse. Can i keep it with a Helfrich Firefish??? They are going to be the only 2 fish in the 29gal.

a fourline will terrorize your firefish; they are as mean if not meaner than the six line wrasse.

Since the Mystery is being added after the Firefish you should have no problems with the two (as an aside, LA has a beautiful Mystery Wrasse in the Diver Den section right now)

I like my exquisite wrasse. very beautiful, doesn't swim as much as others, and with enough flow, will get quite the workout :)

Definitely stay clear of the 6-line in a nano. I had one and it was fine for about 6 months. Totally peaceful fish. It turned mean and had to be removed from the tank after 6 months. It didn't help that it was the biggest fish in the tank at the time.

I will never have another 6-line wrasse in a nano again. I think they are probably great fish in a larger 55g+ tank as long as there are bigger and more aggressive fish to keep the 6-line attitude in check.

Putting a 6-line in a nano and NOT including some other VERY aggressive fish will lead to problems. I never knew this. I learned it the hard way. If you don't believe me, do some searches on google. PLENTY of stories from people saying the exact same thing.

How about a labouti wrasse? Link (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1378+1401&pcatid=1401) They'll make more of a splash since they don't look like your helfrich. (They're cheaper too)

My vote is for carpenter flasher wrasse. I had one in my 29 for a month then he died, but he was a awsome fish. Never figured out why he died though. Ate everyday and got skinnier everyday till he died.

Tagging along - I also want to find a small peaceful wrasse (but not looking at anything priced over $75ish.

The carpenters looks nice. Will they flash though if there is jsut one?

I have just one Carpenter's. The colours in the picture I posted are how it normally looks. I don't think it will flash without a female but the colours in it are bright even when not flashing and it is peaceful.

The Carpenter's occasionally chases my Chalk Bass and my Pajama Cardinal occasionally chases the wrasse.

I went wth the flassher becasuse most other wrasses get too large / agressive for a nano.

I got a sixline in my 24 cube. He is about 2 years old and loves it. But he is in there with a pink spotted goby that is double his size and they just leave each other alone. I have always liked the sixline. Guess I have been lucky with mine.

IME, fourlines, sixlines and mystery wrasse will all become mean eventually - that will happen sooner rather than later in a 29g tank. I would suggest a flasher wrasse as they stay small and are generally not aggressive.

That is good advice.

I'm sorry, but everyone suggesting he get a 4/6 line wrasse is just providing poor advice. They are beautiful fish no doubt, but among the most aggressive of all wrasses. Sure there are some with a good temperament, but the majority are very ferocious, especially in a nano.

I think a lubbocks is a good choice, very bright and peaceful. Otherwise most other suggestions are legit.

Hope this helps!
