i'm considering running 400W SE Radiums without any supplementation... i know a lot of folks have found actinics to draw out coloration from the corals... but i'm curious if anyone has tried forgoing them. my living room peninsula would look a lot better with just mini lumenarcs hanging and no hood to hide the T5's or VHO's.

thanks for any thoughts!

My 400 gallon SPS system is lit by three 400 watt SE 20K Radiums, and two 250 watt SE 20K Radiums (all on PFO HWI ballasts). I like the look and have been getting excellent results.

I've run all sorts of different lighting setups and I'm happy with this. No messy wiring and it takes up less space.

There are LOTS of people that just run 400 watt Radiums with great color and good success overall;)
Most run them on electronic or HQI ballasts(actually most of the 250 watt Radium users are more prone to run HQI).

does anybody know how the radiums run on the PFO electronic ballasts? I'm getting three 250w PFO e-ballasts, but I have never seen PAR results or reviews of the eballast. none of the lighting websites or forums even acknowledge that the PFO eballast exists (must be fairly new???)

I'm thinking of using radiums on the outer 2 and an XM10k in the center (or vice versa) but I am not sure yet.

Thanks

According to Sanjay there is very little difference between the electronic ballasts. In other words they should run equally as well on those as they run on other well recognized brands.

Thanks.
I guess it does make sense to some extent if theyre all strictly regulating the current. I noticed that the standard ballasts can drive the 250w radiums at more like 280w or something.
