so I'm wanting to build a skimmer for my new 80g (40display, 40sump) system that I will be doing a full zeovit system on. I wanted to copy randy's version of the rs-135 but it uses a needlewheel pump and I've been told not to use needlewheels with zeovit due to breaking down of certain elements. Can i still copy this design and use just a standard water pump with a venturi to bring in the air? Could i still get the same results? Would i need to possibly use a bigger pump to compensate? Or should I just use a different design all together? I also want to build the skimmer large enough to use on my 75g in a few years once i outgrow the 40. Thanks for any info

there are lots of randy style skimmers that use aspirating venturis on mesh modded pumps. that's a reasonable approach to take.

BTW i think there's a rule about not bumping your threads until 24 hours have passed.

go to H20eng's gallery . He has made some really nice square skimmers. I copied one of his designs with great success!! btw they are venturi type.

This was the first test run on the above mentioned skimmer. the feed and return plumbing was just temp. It is running on a 300 gallon total system and works great.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/131376skimmer.jpg
