ACIII Internet Acces

Ok I have NO idea when it comes to configuring internet access for stuff like this.

I have an ACIII
Linksys Gaming Adapter
Dlink DIR-625 wireless router


I have already setup the wireless gaming adapter to run on the WEP encrypted network

BUT I AM LOST ON EVERYTHING ELSE

What is really confusing me:

cmd - ipconfig/all - 192.xxx.x.xxx

whatismyip.com - 216.xxx.xx.xxx

Log into Router - Status -

WAN - 216.xxx.xx.xxx (same as above)
LAN - 192.xxx.x.x (Different from ipconfig above - Router IP im assuming?)

So in my ACIII I should set the IP like the LAN address with the last 3 numbers changed?


Also the Subnet and Gateway numbers are different between the ipconfig and what is listed in the Router Status for WAN


I have also setup a DynDNS account and have entered that info into the Dlink router

A short summary on IP might shed some light...

A router is a separation device; it separates 2 networks with 2 different configurations. In the case of an IP router the outside (public/internet) has a different address scheme and setup (address, subnet, etc) than the private (internal, home). Most of the time you don't need to worry about the differences as they don't matter much but when you want to make incoming connections (as you would to access your AC3) there is some things you need to be aware of. Primarily is that from the outside your (home) router appears as 1 address. Everything on the back of the router answers to 1 address (the one reported to you by your router config or whatsmyip.com).

How to configure the AC3/AquaNotes for inbound connections...

Since all devices in the home are addressed using the same address you need to use something to differentiate them and that is where the 'port' number comes in. When the router sees an incoming connection is checks its routing tables (also known as port redirection) and sends the connection to the internal address as configured. The internal connection is usually carried on the same port as the originator but it doesn't have to be that way though only the higher end routers support port ghosting so you can assume that the port you configure is the same.

Configuring the port:

When you configure port forwarding in the router you will add an entry for a port (e.g., 99) to an internal address (e.g., 192.168.1.50). Then, when you connect to your public (internet) address (e.g., 216.4.5.6:99) the router will see the connection, look in the table, find the entry for port 99 and send the connection to the device. Be sure to have all the port numbers the same, the AC3 must be configured for the correct port, and that same port must be the one in the routing table.

i tried the WGA54g last night for around 6 hrs couldnt get it pass the security, im thinking of doing something else instead

However I can only get it to work via FireFox and not IE

Also, I will need to attempt to setup AquaNotes

And for some reason the email function isnt working with gmail ... small issues but ones I still need to fix!

You've got to put in the http:// with IE when not using the default port #.

Yea got the IE page to load finally -- cleared the cookies and its fine

But the GMAIL -- still no go

gmail isn't going to work for the smtp server as it requires SSL. Use your ISPs smtp server, or you can sign up for a free email account at gawab.net, and use their smtp server.

Got the email working with bluebottle.com!

Now to configure what email alerts it sends :)
