Hello, can or do chocolate chip starfish ever leave the tank? I saw it 2hours ago and left for class, came back it's no where to be found. I checked all the live rock and every possible spot, even my floor and I still can't find him. There is a spot where he can get out but I don't know where he would of gone.

Is is common for them to leave the tank?

Sorry Ment to add that. It was about 4" tip to tip. Have about 40lbs of live rock. 60lbs of live sand, 20lbs of aggregate. Other tankmates are 7 blue leg hermits, 2 false percula clowns, 2 green chromis. I just got the cho chip star yesterday and it was real active

He could be under a rock in the substrate. If newly added then its very possible. If it got out it waould be dead on the floor. Whene he gets hungry then he will come out for your yummy CUC.
I see only reef type stock on your list and the chocolate chip isnt reef safe.

Becareful with bare hands.THere are critters like bristle worms that can pack a punch. You should also use non powdered latex gloves.

7 blue legs might of made a snack out of him

Oh I didn't know bristle worms coudl bit you. I have about a half dozen that I can see on my live rocks.

Also the hermet's didn't bother him, i doubt they could dissolve him in 2hrs, I'm sure he's hiding somewhere and he'll peak his head and get some food here after a while

They dont bite. They have bristles that will stick to you like cactus. And are in millimeter to foot sizes. This one would make you cry. From my tank.
