I am currently rebuilding the canopy for my 125g tank. While I am at it, i'm going to rebuild my lighting setup. Are there recommendations on how high the lights should be off of the top of the tank? (Or the surface of the water?) Here is the current setup.

125g AGA Megaflow Tank (22" tall tank with a 4" sand bed)
3x IceCap 660 Ballasts
12x 36" UVL/URI bulbs (4 Aquasuns 10K, 4 Actinic White 12K, 2 75/25 14K, and 2 Super Acinitc 420nm)

The tank is SPS dominated (mostly millepora right now) with the exception of some various Zoa's but those will probably go away at some point. I've got up to 12" of height available in my canopy and can get up to 2" away from the water if needed.

Any suggestions? Is there an optimal height for the SLR reflectors?

Thanks,
Ed

when you go to the SLR's and T5's you probably want to use most of that height for acclimation and maybe settle ~6". The only things you're gonna run into around that height and lower is that you're gonna get slat splash/creep on the bulbs and the reflectors.
