Okay, I just tried to start up my mce600 skimmer. I had to quickly turn it off to keep the outflow of water from hitting my hood. However, when I tried turning it back on, the aquabee pump doesn't come on anymore. I checked the flap inside the pump to make sure it moved back and forth easily. Everything seems to be in working condition. It's brand new. Please help!!!!! I'm not sure what's going on with it.
thanks

okay, it just randomly started back up after pulling out the pump. It must have been an air bubble. strange. and this is after I blew into the airline.
All I have to say now is, "Look at all of the foam!!!!!".

If it is a new style Aquabee with the fixed shaft this (http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/?q=node/464) should help.

Hey marvin,
thanks for following up with this issue! This is perfect!
One more question: Is the plastic piece for the venturi air line supposed to be glued to the pump or can it come out? I accidentally pulled it off. So, I glued it back on.
The pump runs fine now. I haven't had any start up issues. It does, however, make an almost "grinding" sound when starting up, then kicks in.
Thanks,
Phu

It is supposed to be glued. Glad it is working well for you now.

Marvin the AquaBee on my APF600 does the exact same thing. When it fails to start, I can unscrew the output end and rotate the pump so the output is pointed into the sump. It will continue to stutter for several seconds, and then it kicks in normally, and I can screw the pump output back in place. Same issue?

Marvin, tested the pump several times yesterday, and everything seems fine. Thanks again for the help

Just curious what everyone's experience on this issue is:
Does your pump make a grinding/gurgling noise for about one second before starting up?
I've had the skimmer since may and it's been running great. Just curious.

Mine kicks right over with no noise, no fuss.

Mine made the ugly grinding/gurgling noise you reference every time I started it up: I had to blow into the airline to get it going correctly every time. On Saturday I cleaned the whole skimmer and soaked the pump for a couple of hours, and now it starts up immediately.
Interestingly, it did the grind/gurgle thing when it was brand new. So maybe it has to do with how the pump is seated into the skimmer...
