I have been looking to buy a skimmer for a few weeks now and decided i like the extreme 200 but cannot fit it in my space. i have 10in x 16in and cannot find the right fit. I want to spend under $400 or soo. What can i do for this... Does anyone have a skimmer to recommend?? please i am stuck

my tank is a 180 with 40gal sump medium stock... I love to feed them..

maybe i need a recirc????

try a hang on unit if you cant find one to fit.

look into recirc models, most work out of sump and just require a feed pump.

the Aqua C EV series skimmer have a small footprint and so do the Bermuda skimmers. I would personally go with the Bermuda BPS-5C for you tank. My LFS has it on their 400 gal system (2 tanks 200gal each strictly SPS), and that water is pristine!

BM 200 may be?

Any chance you can adjust the baffle width in your sump to accommodate a slightly larger footprint? If so, you could look at the MSX skimmers. The MSX should easily handle your tank heavily stocked and it fits within your price range at $360. Footprint is 11.5 x 13.5

is it true that you can overskim to the point where you are starving inverts and corals?

Definitely different schools of thought on that, but I believe it is safe to say that you can skim to a point that you are stripping the water of enough DOC's and nutrients that you could have to dose supplementally to meet the corals/inverts' feeding needs.

Don't worry about overskimming, you won't

Luke...as much as I agree with you there are others that would say that this actually can't happen. I think the guy that suggested this said that putting an over sized skimmer on your tank will begin to bleach out corals because of the lack of nutrients.

I didn't say it can't happen, but in this case, its not going to. : )

lol
well if you go all technical on me...

Oh and that sux you're not able to fit the MSX in your sump
I just bought a Bermuda 3C...and although I'm really happy with it I wish I woulda seen the MSX first.
