There are countless benefits including less algae, lower nutrients, cleaner water, clearer water, cleaner tank. Just to name a few.

How old is your tank?
How many fish and type of stock?

not to mention it helps to continually oxygenate the water.

Sorry but your SW tank will get better O2 saturation through water surface exchange , the skimmer does help a little but helps more by breaking the surface tension allowing a btter O2 exchange. The bubbles you see are more of a nussance and this is why we add a sump or fuge to remove this eyesore.

You cant have a SW tank with anyfish go without a skimmer.Fish can live in bad conditions but ammonia and low O2 are not ones they do well in.

I agree there are better ways, it just helps. I never meant the microbubbles oxygenate the water. Rather the churning and turbulence within the skimmer body. Also, if your skimmer exit is above the surface it's breaking the surface of the water as it enters.

The more you and anyone you views this thread knows. This is not a turnkey hobby and takes an understanding.Without the basic understanding then your going to fail guaranted , but it may take time like months or yrs and then you lose interest and lots of wasted time and money. A little thing like a misunderstanding of O2 exchange can make a world of differance.
If done right and by the tested methods then you will wonder why so many fail, if done wrong youll wish you never heard of SW tanks.

Everyone gets ticked at you... I just smile.

:)

I never attempted to explain 02 exchange Lance. I just answered the original posters question, and my statement was correct.

Truth often hurts. Why get ticked with good advice that can be backed up. Your like the rest, just backup your response then smile. Cause i am usually right. I guess my low education and grammer skills means i may come off hard or mean, its not . I just like getting to the point and leave feelings out of something like internet forums where its impossible to judge.

My old lady came in and convinced me to erase all my babble and apoligize.Im sorry i oony wanted to help original thread started. Your comment on O2 from skimmer though has some warrant really doesnt matter enough to matter and should not be associated with SW. But im sorry for "ticking" you.
