My friend has a habit of buying before researching. This great trait is what took an awsome superman monti and turned it into a brown rock. Now he has offered it to me for free. My question is will I just be inheriting a brown rock or grabbing a diamond in the ruff. I have never had a sps before but I'm looking to break in and from what i read monti are the best start. Any suggestions will help. Thanks :)

I have cycled 3 month old 29g with:
6x39w t5s (3x10ks/3x Actinic Blue)
wet/dry using LR
Skimmer
temp ranges 76-80F
56lbs of Fiji LR
PH 8.3
10dkh
Ca 400
Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate are 0 ppm

moniporas such as superman can sometimes look apear dead when really stressed. The coral will look white, as it gets better the polyps should get pink and later red, the skin goes from white to maroon and later to blue. If there is algae growing on it and its beyond freshly bleeched not much you can do.
Give it as much light as you can.

What was the reason for it browning out, low light, nutrients?

If it is low light put it on the bottom of your tank and slowly raise it up to higher intensity light.

A free superman monti is always a good thing. You never know what will happen, although I'd first quarantine before taking anything in.

Place it low. It should recover.
