What I got going is a 45g corner tank, so, basically a square missing one side. I have my return split with one of those octopus wave simulators and those are at opposite corners. Then I have two power heads that are pretty old but still have good flow. Currently I have most of my LR centered in the tank and tried to simulate a counter clockwise flow, having all returns and power heads pointed right so the flow is the same.

What is the best for growth/health of my tank? Is counter flow? And how much is too much?

It really depends on what you want to keep. Flow should be between 15-20 times your tanks size for most corals. Ive read that some sps keepers keep there flow at 40x there tanks size.

I prefer the flow in my tank to be unidirectional, meaning that I have powerheads facing the glass and the rocks so i dont have dead spots. There also on a timer so that one minute they could all be on and the tank current could be strong while the next there may only be one on.
