I am planning on making a sump out of 20L glass tank that I have. I have some scrap 1/4" plexiglass laying around that I would like to use for baffles rather than going out and buying glass. Can I use silicone as sealants for the plexiglass baffles? If not, what should I should? Any input is appreciated.

silicone for baffles will work fine as there is not much pressure difference from one side to the other. Just goop it on liberally.

The other way would be to go to a picture framing place (hobby lobby, or even Home Depot) and just buy glass baffles. You can measure and tell them exactly what size you need. Then they'll cut them for you and you can silicone them right in. Glass would be best but acrylic would work fine too.

I used acrylic in my 40 long sump and it worked fine. I just was liberal in my application of silicone as Pbrown said. The silicone will adhere to the glass and act as a wedge holding the acrylic in place (silicone both sides).
