The growing tips of my acros are beginning to develop a blueish tint. I havent changed lighting. My parameters are adequate and stable. Nitrates have been undetectable for sometime. The one thing that I cant/dont test for is PO4. My sps all have decent color, but the bluish tint to the tips is new. This has occured in both my display and frag tank. The display is lit with 250MH XM10k and the frag is lit with 175MH aqualine10k

Nope just wondering what might cause the tips to turn blueish.

new growth. less zoox density in the tips and shows more pigment/colour.

but the blue tint is new development. The growing tips have always been either white or the color of the piece. Now the ones with white growing tips have developed the blue tint.

Dont worry you are doing things right. The coral must be happy

Nothing has changed? I would guess your sps's are getting more food. Keep up the good work, pict?

most sps take months to get fully aclimated to the envirnment they get moved into. Yes we aclimate them to the water conditions in a few hours and they reach a point of surviving in few days, but for them to really settle in and get comfy with things can take months. I suspect they are just finally happy, thinking this is home, and decided to make the best of it.

so theorethiclly in a low nutrient system, the color of the tip will be the color of the all coral as low nutrient=low zoox?

Does that explain bluetips on a yellow acro?

Natural tri-color acros developing in your tank! Keep up the good work!

Sometimes they do all sorts of things that we cannot easily explain. While it would be very interesting to know why they are now producing more of this pigment, I'm not sure we'll realistically be able to do so.
