I am considering the steel stand route, and/or hood, as well.
Does anyone know of any steel stand builders?

Base would be 60" x 48" (300 gallon).

As for why...more room underneath I guess.
I am HORRIBLE at building stands and I don't want the new tank to crash down. :)

Plus, I can't find any good plans to build a wood one.

i can do it!!! but i dont think you want to pay for materials and labor, and then shipping on top of it. i built a 45 hex steel stand and it turned out great. my 72 bow i decided to go with plywood though.

glass or acrylic is the wait going to sit on the perimeter or the whole thing. i would design you a sweet stand canopy but that is alot of wait over a small area how tall do you want it. thats an interesting dimension. i think you could fine a local fabricator to build you a frame ( i hate metal mostly because i am a woodworker) and the ''skin it'' I wouldn't do the plywood route though you could buy raised end panels and doors and have the strength of steel and the look of quality craftmanship.
Sorry if i went a different direction then you were looking for. let me know and I can try to help if you want. I also thought as i typed so i am answering myself and doing it on a phone so its hard to edit.
