How important is the flow through a sump?? I installed a 20g sump about 6 weeks ago on my 70g reef that contains a 2-3" sand bed, rock and a fair amount of Caulerpa prolifer. I am happy with the results, the (easy) corals I currently have seem much happier, and the simple design I built looks like it is working well.
My only question is that theres seems to be a slow built up of material on top of the sand. The flow through the sump is not that strong since it only has a Mag7 pump as the return. The flow does go diagonally, coming from the bottom right and flowing up and over a baffle on the left side before the pump. The plants do not seem to move much, and like I said there is a slow build up.
Do I need a mini pump to move some water around or am I at a stage where I can put a couple snails in there?
This is my first time posting a question, thank you for any assistance!
