can you have a lighting cycle that lasts too long? right now i have a 55gal i run 4x110 vho with 2 blue acinics that run from 5 pm. to 1 am. and 1 75/25 and 1 white that run from 6p.m. to 12am. can i run them longer to produce more growth or wha? any advice will be appreciated!

I would say 6 to 8 hours is plenty.

I have a 55g with 4 VHO aswell and run mine from 2pm till 10 pm. So eight hours.

I would probably stick within the range of 8-10 hours, anymore and you might start getting algea outbreaks

:o I'm embarrassed to say that I bake my reef with a photoperiod of 14 hours per day. I always thought that reefs in the tropic receive 12 to 15 hours of light per day, no?
