hey all, setting up a 40 gallon with 20 gallon sump. It is SPS dominant with a 2" sand bed. I have a guy local selling a Precision Marine Bullet 1. I would get it for my tank, but my LFS said that it might be overkill for me and that I might run into problems with having no trace elements left.

Any insight would be great.

thanks in advance..

i'd say get it. if you really end up having problems which i doubt you could just skim dry

For an SPS dominated tank I think you'll be just fine. Also, the LFS claim that it will remove all your trace elements is unfounded. No one is really sure exactly what a skimmer removes, but I wouldn't worry about it removing all of your trace elements. If anything, you might want to feed your corals a little heavier.

I don't think you can ever over do it with a skimmer to be honest. Heck, I have a 65DT with a 35 Fuge Ecosystem method and run a Bermuda Aquatics BPS-3C rated for a 300G and it's nice to know that I have that extra horse power. You'll be fine.
