After testing my pump on my older (1 year) it's pulling 120 watts, so it's obviously bad.

Looking on your site I see there are 2 different replacement pumps:

It says the second one is for the older skimmers (like mine) but what is the difference? I seen you mentioned them being better in another thread, is it just an improved venturi or is there something actually different about the pump itself? If the new one is better is there anything stopping me from using it? I'm hoping it will lastr longer than a year :)

Thanks for the help.

The pumps are the same motor, but they changed the thread size and then they changed the venturi on the skimmer to pull more air, but they didn't make it backwards compatable, which means you would have to use the "older style" pump on your skimmer.

We haven't had many issues with them though, so they do seem to last pretty long time. So hopefully your bad one was a fluke and not a trend. You could always try a new impeller first, that often fixes a lot of problems. The motors usually don't go bad on pumps in general very often.

Bummed to see the needlewheel is considerably smaller on the new pump :( On a better note its pulling around 45 watts, which I can't complain about...

Looks like I'll have to use mesh to get her to produce :)
