View Full Version : Stingray with goiter

About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my stingray had a goiter. I read on Fenner's website that this is caused by a nutritional and Iodine deficiency so I've been soaking the food in Iodine and offering a bit more variety in the feedings. The ray seems to be in better health and is behaving normally once again, however the goiter is not going down very much. It's not getting bigger but I don't notice a significant decrease in size.

Is there anything else I can do to treat the goiter? If not then I will continue what I've been doing for as long as necessary. Anyone know how long it generally takes to treat goiter with Iodine? Any information would be appreciated.

I have got a lot of info from Kelly Jerlicki ,sorry Kelly if I misspelled your name, she is on here as puffer queen.
The best way to contact her is throught the marine depot forum on fish disease.

She advised me to use Mazuri shark vitamins, I have not ordered yet though.

I have also heard good things about these vitamins. I would use them regularly if I were you.

As the others mentioned, the Mazuri shark and ray vitamins are great. Depending on how severe the goiter is, it can take weeks and even months to completely take care of it. Poor water quality will also contribute to goiter, so make sure that your nitrates are in check.
