I've read a couple places (was awhile back & can't find anything now) that with threadfin cardinals u have to be very careful not to let their slimecoat touch anything -- net, dry part of a bag etc when putting them in a new tank---or the coat will come off & they'll usually get sick & die from this. Anyone ever hear/know anything about this? And any suggestions as how to avoid it, was going to pick 6 up from LFS tomorrow.

HI

I have a group of 7 and 5 were caught out of the LFS tank with a glass bell, the other 2 were netted, it made no difference. However, one importer told me that he does not net Threadfins at all, because of the high losses due to infections etcl., When he gets an import he dumps them right out of the bag into a quarantine tank that has the same pH as the water in the bag. Overnight he changes the entire volume of water against fresh water out of his holding system. After quarantine they are moved into the holding tanks with a glass bell. Since he stopped netting them the losses went down considerably.

There seems to be at least some indication that these fishes have problems with damages on their slime coat

a bit late in replying to this one, sorry. I keep trying to search for these fish and only 3 posts come up... did rc lose some of its archives?

anyway, mine eat mysis like crazy. I have 2 true percs, and 2 threadfins, and the threadfins are much faster eaters than the percs, i thought it would be the other way around.

the first two weeks, i never saw these fish, and after getting increasingly frustrated, i changed the rockwork to have less hiding places in the back, and now they are out about 80% of the time.

I should also note that they spawned the first day in the tank. The clownfish went crazy and ate them all up...
