Mushrooms with 250w

Hi,,

I wont to change my light from 150w to 250w , is it dangerous for soft corals and mushrooms from burninig ?

I've found that softies don't seem to do well in my tank under a 14K Phoenix MH light. The mushrooms which are still thriving are in the shadow of the LR.

I think overall, that particular light is great for fish, hard corals, coralline, etc., but you may have to move your softies around a bit until they find a spot where they are happy. I certainly wouldn't change my light.

i have a buttload of mushrooms under some 250w 15k bulbs they are totally spread out soaking up the rays never had one problem... 1 mushroom is now 5 in about 4 months

I don't think one can generalize about mushrooms and their reactions to different lighting intensities. Depends on the particular species, color morph, etc. I have some blue mushrooms that shrivel under 250 watt halides, reds that like it early in the day, and frillies that soak it up all day long. Some soft corals thrive under bright conditions - my sinularia and sarcophyton like it bright.

I think you are certainly safe trying the new light and moving the mushroom rocks around as needed. The added light intensity will increase the types of critters you can keep and make the hobby more fun.

I have 3 250W MH in a 6ft long tank that is 30 inches deep. My mushrooms do much better on the bottom of the tank. In fact, my fuzzy mushroom has improved greatly since I moved it from mid tank to the bottom in the shade of the life rock. Just my experiences to add to the body of knowlege here.

I have mushrooms and softies under 2x250W 14KK bulbs. They all do fine, and the shrooms have been multiplying.

They will LOVE that light. It's flow they despise.

I have 2-250w on a 24 inch tank, with mushrooms a little more than half way down, and minimal flow. They reach for the light, and some are 5 inches across. Put a little flow across them (I have tried it) and they shrink to 2 inches and hug the rock.

Not all mushrooms are equal, but the thing is that they mostly TOLERATE low light .... but that does not mean they turn away from it when it is offered.
