I've recently bought and installed a calcium reactor. It didn't have a second chamber. I'm thinking of building a second chamber using regular PVC.

I'm a little confused on how to contruct the second chamber. Does the 2nd chamber just hold 'water' or am I supose to put some media in it?

Thanks

What is the 2nd chamber used for? Why is it a benefit?

Put media in it.

The second chamber is to stabilize the PH by using up any C02 remaining in the effluient.

I have a 6"x24" calcium reactor and I recently added a second chamber 6"x24" filled with Gen-X large media in an attempt to increase the pH of the effluent, thereby increasing the pH of the display. I also mix kalk in a 6"x24" reactor and all my topoff goes through the kalk. Prior to the second chamber my tank pH was 7.7 to 7.85 even with about 5 gallons of lime water being added. After adding the second chamber about 3 weeks ago, my tank pH is 8.05 to 8.25.
