I'm sure they're not all the same.
Which one is best?

I don't know what you mean by "best" and how you will be using it, but this one is cheap and works great. http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/235653/product.web

I agree! Also go inline if you can. I plugged one in after RO and one after DI. Now it is so easy to test! I really don't care about the tap. I want to now when RO or DI is going up. My RO reads about 2ppm and DI 0ppm. Note; I wait for a couple minutes of it going, before testing.

I recommend the COM-100 handheld. It gives you portability and accuracy you do not get with an inline meter . Inlines are dedicated instruments so you can only measure those two points. With a handheld you can measure your tap water, after the prefilters, RO only, RO/DI, DI only, your neighbors, the LFS, the water store, the grocery etc.
The COM-100 is the best of the handhelds.

I notice the COM-100 measures electrical conductivity as well, couldn't this be used to measure the salinity of your water? Or is it somehow a different scale?

Salinity is way out of range for the COM-100. Conductivity is nice for low end DI measurements though.

We are a Master Distributor for HM Digital so we are a little biased on this topic - but we do like the HM Digital Meters and found HM much better to work with then Hanna.

If you are looking for a handheld, the two most widely sold HM handhelds are the TDS3 and the COM-100. As mentioned above the COM-100 is a more precise meter.

As Jim stated earlier from Filter boys The in line is accurate enough for what we need in the hobby. I went for the in line all I have to do is look whileI'm makeing water mounted on wall i find it the way to go.
