Would I need on a tank with about 250 gallons total capacity. id like to make sure the mh's dont heat the tank up too much in the summer...last summer i just had to manually turn the mh's off when the tank got too hot.

im looking at one that is 1/10th hp and one is 1/15 hp but i know NOTHING about them. also, im raising the lights up off the tank and hanging them. right now they are only 3 or 4 inches up off the water (on the legs that come with the light)

thanks

Both are too small.

You can use this calculator to help size a chiller: http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod_chiller_size.asp

I'd do atleast a 1/4 hp chiller.

i'd go 1/2 horse

anything smaller will run for a while to maintain the temp (and that means $$) vs if it's strong it will knock it down fast and use less electricity.

For my 280+sump i'd ideally get 3/4. I just sold one b/c it was too big and i'll try to see if i can fly without one... but if i needed one, i'd go larger than smaller.
