Hey guy's I'm starting my build thread a little early (Hi Marko!) but I wanted to ask you a couple of questions before the build, Yesturday I bought a used LeeMar 225 gallon 72L x 30W x 24H Starfire tank 1/2" glass with diamond edges, black silicone, Trapizoid center overflow with two 1.5" Drains, two 1" returns and Euro braced. I also bought his SoCal Creations 48L x 24W x 20H Sump.

At the bottom of my post are the rest of the equipment that will be transfered to the new tank Incl. 3 (newly Aquired) Luminarc III Reflectors.

I am a contractor in NorCal and I will be adding 400 sq.ft. to my home and the first thing you will see when you walk into the house (to the right) will be my new tank. There will be a 6 foot hole cut into the wall where the tank's butt end will be placed, the outside will be sheetrocked and textured to match the rest of the room's color.

I will remove the Furnace and water heater and relocate them, I will build a platform that will be 3'W x 6'L x 8H that will be an enclosed fish room with a fire door (Because it will be into the Garage).

Now here are my questions:

* Which return pump should I buy?
* How do you deal with the heat/humidity in a fish room other then my chiller running 24/7? Pictures would be very helpful.

Thats a gorgeous tank, first off. The new one and the past one. For a return pump, some people use Darts, but that seems like a bit of flow to me. You could use an eheim 1262, theyre quite, and it'll be enough flow. Im not sure on the heat and humidity though, I havent got that far in my experiences yet lol. I just use a nice large fan that comes on when the MHs come on, and keep the house cool via AC. My tank never really gets too hot that way. Since youre a contractor, you could very easily make a box for a chiller to sit in, with an exhaust fan blowing the heat outside. And the same with the tank, if youre using a canopy.

I would try to do as much evaporative cooling as possible and run the chiller very little. I'm going to seal my canopy and plan to bring in air from my crawl space and vent it outside with a fan timed when the MH comes on. My sump will be outside in a shed with additional fans for evap cooling on a controller. I would size your return pump towards the high spec on your chiller if your sump could handle the flow. I think John was running a dart throttled back so maybe a snapper would be a good fit. Good luck with the build, I'll be along for the ride. -Charles

Hey guy's while my tank is at the beauty parlor getting it's hair done I figured that this would be a perfect time to weld up my stand, so far Iv'e been at it for two days and it's coming along nicely.

Here are three pictures of where I was yesturday and the end of the day today, I should have it ready for coating monday morning. I just thought that I would share my build with you.

Thank's Everyone this is my dream tank, big but not too big, in wall but not inaccessable. My fishroom will be in the garage, if you look in the picture at the furnace and water heater that's where the tank will be. The tank will be inside the house but the 3'x6' fish room will be built in the garage. I have to move the garage door to the right about a foot and a half, buy a tankless water heater and move the furnace into the attic, what's really cool is that I will be able to use the furnaces exhaust stack to use to blow out the heat from the lights, and bring cool air inside the fish room from the hole from where the air ducts used to be from under the house.

After the stand is done I will be constructing my light rack out of aluminum for my Luminarc III's.

I installed a rannai tankless water heater earlier this year. It is so cool. You can even control the temperature of the water coming out.

Here is what Iv'e completed today, the supports on the top, and the front angle supports. Monday I will seal up the tube ends, weld on the tabs ( for screwing on the plywood around the perimeter ) clean up the welds, and prime the whole stand.

This looks like a setup with real potential. Youll really like the aquascaping possibilities with a 30" wide tank.

Yea this will be the last tank that I will own so I pushed V-E-R-Y hard with the wife to come to an understanding that if I place 6 inches or so in the wall it will be the same as a 180, I think the 30" tank (inset into the wall) will give the tank depth.

What did you end up doing to fix the tank bottom? Someone local fix it, or did you buy a new tank?

There was a Company in San Jose (World Marine Systems) that didn't flinch when it came to replacing the bottom panel, he wanted $450 to get up and running and $650 to make it tempered.....................Yea I went the tempered route. BTW he added a 1/8" sheet of PVC to cover the entire bottom of the tank.

So the last time I posted here I had just sealed up my tank in plywood, it is now on it's third month still undergoing the water test from when the tank cracked. I have been very busy gathering supplies waiting for the big day, here are some pictures of what I have been buying lately. BTW today I ordered from a local tank builder a couple things such as a 3' x 6' x 2" drip tray with a bulk head to place under the entire undercarriage of the stand, and a custom frag tank that will be mounted on the left side of the sump.

Deltec PF601 Calcium Reactor.
Tunze Wave Box.
Liter Meter 3.
Tunze Osmolator.
Deltec 1060s Skimmer.
Sequence "Snapper" return pump.
Shedule 80 Plumbing.
Ice Cap 660 Ballast withend caps and 6' Actinics 03.
ARO 250 watt ballast with a PFO hood for the Frag Tank.
3 -Sea swirl's with the tunze holders.
Frag Tank and Overflow tray.
Aluminum stock to make my light rack.
Three Luminarc III reflectors. with exhaust ports.

Iv'e been so busy with the remodel that I haven't paid too much attention to my Idaho Grape, so during a water change I decided to put a tape on this thing and ....Bam! he dun growd abit!

and as usual here are some updated house pics. In one picture I decided to Caufer the living room ceiling 8" and the porch and the entry/hallway ceiling will be barreled like in the picture below.
