So it was leaking so I put "thicker" Teflon tape on... after about 4 turns it split!

My LR is coming on Friday this week... do I take off the teflon and just glue the PVC and this together? or call Reeflo for a replacement?

If glue, any recommendations?

Thanks!

Get a replacement. Explain what happened and you maybe able to get it overnighted. I had so much trouble with my plumbing my dart, it took a month I think. Get some teflon paste. Reeflo told me that the tape isn't really very good for sealing the pumps.

I did the same thing get a new one you can not fix that.... You used too much tape and made it to tight best way IMOP is use clear aquarium silicone and your done easy to use and it comes off easy if you need to do it again.

Call Chris or Pauline at Reeflo. They are great folks. I've got 4 of his pumps and have had great customer service. When you get the new piece, use regular tape, wind 6 times around the fitting and then put clear silicone on the threads and don't overtighten. It will be ready to go in about 6 hours.

Can I use silicone grease instead of aquarium silicone? Because the live rock is on the way and the sump is full of water, I don't really want to wait for curing. Will the grease work as well?

I wouldn't use silicon anyways. Silicon doesn't really adhere well to plastic. Silicon and acylic compatibility is well documented, it may not be the same but why take the risk.

i cracked the input on my snapper. It was made from an SMC so it was easily fixed with "glue". Not sure if the dart is different though.

I used liquid telfon on the threads of my darts , worked a treat .

That sux I just tossed one in the trash the other day. You could have had it for shipping.. should have screwed up sooner! Id replace it.. Dont use tape that crap never works on my pumps.. I use the thread sealer with teflon in it.. Works much better.

Use teflon paste for plastic threads that need a seal and silicone grease for plastic threads that don't need a seal (Unions). I would always wait a day though. Nothing in this hobby happens fast!
