are batfish reef safe?????????

as far as i know yes, but no tank can hold them at their adult size. I woudl recomend against one

Yes, but they all require 300+ gallon tanks as mature adults.

As far as I know, but I haven't seen many do very well in captivity. Often they just seem to fade away.

I always thought the same thing until I read an article in (iirc) Marine Fish and Reef Magazine discussing these creatures. If I had to guess, it was probably stress from more aggressive feeders and/or too small of a tank.

As far as Im concerned, they are not reef safe. They will sample many inverts, particularly motile ones, and possibly even some soft corals.
As mentioned, they grow enormously large too. However, it is a bit of an incorrect generalization to say tehy are all sensitive. Certain species (like orbics and tieras) can be quite hardy provide they have placid tankmates.

Being they need a ridicuklous anmount of space, I would think most reef tanks (with lots of rocks and corals) would be unsuitable homes.

I have a 125 gall. the fishes in the tank are clown (1) fire fish(3) yelow wrase (1) and a six line they are all small I am looking for 1 or 2 meddiam size tang


any sugestions ????

Ive had my Pinate Batfish for about 8 months now in my 5x2x2 with much success so far. Though im upgrading to at least an 8ftx2.5x2.5 to help cater for his size.

Your thread in your signature has a post from Feb 2008 that has no pinnatus batfish in it? Yet you say youve had it for 8 months. And it has a ton of beautiful angels in there (one fo the worst tankmates for batfishes ever). Whats the story?
