So I recently purchased a two spot goby a couple days ago from my LFS. They told me to feed him frozen spirulina brine shrimp. He is not eating though?!?! He is sifting through the sand so I am guessing he is eating something in there? Is this sifting enough or should I keep trying to feed him? I also have mysis...would that be better?

Tank is a 5.5 gallon set up for about a month.

He will not find enough to eat in the sand in such a small tank. Mysis is much more nutritious. I would use a turkey baster to put the mysis right in front of him until he gets used to eating out of the water column. Also soaking the mysis in Selco should help too.

can this goby survive in a 175 gal just sifting sand?, if not which goby can?

in an older (1 yr. or more) 175 with a refugium, I would think one would be ok. Of course, that's just my opinion based on experience.

Maybe, it's a tough call. They're just not a fish that adapts very well to aquarium life. Trying to get sinking pellets to settles in the sandbed or injecting cyclopeeze or mysis into the sandbed may help.

I got one when I had my 18g. Then I got the upgrade bug. So it moved to the 44g. Then to the 65g. I had him for five years, before giving him to a friend when I was moving out of state. They are a great fish but mine never left the sand.
