I have a 75 gal Oceanic Reef ready tank that is 6 years old. My question is can I drill through the back side of the tank to add a bulk head without the glass cracking or can I grind the openings in the bottom of the side return bigger (pre- exsisting holes)with out the glass cracking. I think the bottom on these are tempered.

Do not do anything to the holes where the glass is tempered, that is just playing with fire.

I would check with the manufacturer to see if the back pane is tempered, I am pretty sure that they do not temper the back panels.

most do not temper the back pane unless specificaly requested by the purchaser. I would drill it and not the bottom. Just drill it slow and you should be ok.

It is very likely that the holes where drilled in the bottom then it was tempered.

Most bottoms are tempered and you can under no curcumstances drill, cut, or grind out tempered glass.

It is UNlikely that the back is tempered and you should be ok to drill the back.

It never hurts to try and contact the manufacture for tempered confirmation.
