the recipe calls for both in an attempt to not OD your tank on chloride or sulfate.
5 cups chloride + 3 cups sulfate if I remember correctly.

Sorry, the mg diy suppliment is a mixture of magnesium chloride and magnesium sulphate (Epsom Salt).
You can use straight Epsom salts if you like (8 cups to 1 gallon ro/di), but depending on your water change schedule and dosing schedule you could end up with significantly elevated sulphates.
With a reasonable water change schedule its probably fine to just use Epsom salts.

This is the recipe article and it has the brand names of the magnesium chloride stuff in it. The Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate) can be any brand from a drug store that says it is USP grade. :)

Or you can just buy a jug of Kent Tech-M.
It is in liquid form and is easy to use. Mag depletes rather slowly so a jug may last you awhile.
