Is it okay to add baking soda right to the sump? I need to add about 6 teaspoons every other day to keep my Alk around 8. I've been doing this for about a week and everything seems fine so far.

Thanks

Baking soda is fine to use as an alkalinity additive. Many times it can settle on the bottom of the sump if added directly so I would suggest mixing it into some water first.

Dissolve it in some water and then pour it into the sump.

Use fresh water to dissolve it. :)
