HI
Here you can find our manual for our balling light methode
to calcificate reef tanks.
This kind of calcification is the most popular in germany and meanwhie more then 80 % of reefers use this methode succesfully

The label says to put the iodine in with the Alkalinity, but the manual says to put it in with the Mag. Which is correct?
Thanks in advance.

Can it be put in the alkalinity? Here is another article that says put it in the alk. canister:http://glassbox-design.com/2008/the-balling-method-how-does-it-differ-from-two-part/

I have been looking into various different Calcium/Magnesium/Alkalinity/Trace element supplementation schemes (Traditional Balling, Balling Light, Balling Individual Plus, Randy's two/three part) and there are 2 things that stick out as being quite different with Balling Light in comparison to the others:
1. the calcium solution (2 kilos per 5 liters of water) is much more concentrated compared to the strength of the alkalinity solution (500 g per 5 liters)i
2. the ratio of Magnesium chloride to Mag Sulfate (2 kg MgCl and 250 g MgSO4) seems a bit high on the MgCl2 side
now I realize that this is a different scheme and therefore different numbers, but all of the other methods are fairly close in the concentrations of the solutions. can you give me a little insight as to why? also, I couldn't find an approximate starting dose in ml per day for each solution can you help on this?
thanks

I've been using the balling method for 2 weeks now and Calcium and Mg seem to be dialed in but my ALK is always low. I keep bumping it up but it keeps coming down.
Ca - 450
Mg -1300
Alk - 7.2
PH - 7.95 to 8.2
ORP - 250 to 290

Hi
You have super saturated your tank with CA bring this level down slowly and watch the Alk rise, too much CA will supress ALK, levels as low as 380 for CA are just fine

let's give it whirl. Thanks. I only saw 1 Mili that is struggling. That might be the result in a face plant it took from high in the tank into my sand. Thanks.

Try the Fauna Marin DKH test kit they are spot on you can also use the fauna marin test your test kit sample bottle, this is great for test kit analysis.
If you want to purchase any of this let me know and we can get things out to you.
Hello everyone,
I started my balling programme last monday and I have some questions and I was wondering if someone could help me.
My tank has about 800L before starting this method I had the following values:
Ca - 340, Kh - 7.0, Mg - 1110.
I followed all the instructions in the manual and started by dosing 20ml of each of the 3 canisters.
Today I made tests again and came up with the following figures: Ca - 360, Kh - 6.3, Mg - 1110.
So, now I don't know how to proceed, Ca seems to be raising a little and Kh dropping... Mg is doesn't seem to be improving.
Thank you very much,
Best regards,
Carlos

IME the CA is very stong, I only dose 30 ml/day on my 200 gallon SPS tank. As for as the ALK goes I dose 200 ml/day for roughly 7.5 DKH. Right now my CA is a 420 which I am trying to slowly bring down. Once I get it around 400 I hope to dose less of the KH solution.

Hi Carlos
Your parameters showed that you did not have the right salinity
please check this , increase the level to 34 / 35 SAL and
then you can fix your parameters very easily
claude
Hi Claude,
You are right...:spin2:
My salinity is at 30. So I'll stop the dosings and raise the salinity slowly.
I'll post the results.
Thank you very much,
Best regards,
Carlos
Hi again,
I slowly raised the salinity to 33 and will get to 35.
Made some tests again with the following results:
KH-5.5
Mg - 1110
Ca - 370
As you know i started with 20ml of each solution, so in your opinion what dosings should i start with given the values mentioned above?
Thanks and regards,
Carlos

General rule of thumb if you follow this method for any tank I've dosed:.....
You will likely dose 4 times more Sodium Bicarbonate solution than the Calcium.
