So I have a 29g Bio Cube and was thinking about putting a small snowflake eel in. What does everyone think about this?

I think there are a lot better eels out there for that size tank. But it should be ok. I would have one nice size "Fake" rock in there only. The reason I say fake is so you can pick one that has enough holes for him to hide in when he needs to.

What would be a good eel? Here is a link to the thread on my tank if you would like that information. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1346086

don't do it man, they are cool but you will limit your self on lots of other cool corals and fish you could get.

I modded a biocube for someone who wanted to keep a snowflake eel. I had to extend the false wall in the back to keep the eel from goin into the rear chambers. I highly recommend you doing this if you end up getting one. Eels and return pumps dont get along to well.

Wow... thats a small space for even a tiny eel. I dont think I would like to live in a closet for the rest of my life.

eels are messy eaters and huge on bioload...there would no keeping of other fish and corals in the tank...you would likely max out the tanks filtration with just the eel...they grow to about 30" so he will spend the better part of his life coiled in the tank, unless you plan to upgrade in the very near future i would recommend against it..

along with the other concerns, they are escape artists aswell, so covering the rear chambers and making sure the top is on will also be key factors to success...

i have seen 6" eels in my LFS, but they will grow and fairly quick.

Not worth the cost of a biocube. WHy not just buy a regular tank with a HOB and T-8 lighting to keep the eel? Biocubes are setup for simple reefs, not FOWLRs.

I wanted to thank everyone for their help with this. I have decided not to get the eel but instead get a great white shark.

I think that, in the end is a better choice.

The rule of thumb in this hobby is that the tank has to be twice as long as the eel.

Id rather get either a black or a white tip reef shark, they look cool. Although i would suggest only one for that size tank.
