I use povidone, which is essentially Iodine. I believe it came from Walgreens. I do not think it kills pests outright but it definitely rocks their world to the point where many can be blown off with a turkey baster...

On top of dipping with iodine, some people are dipping acro's for 6 hours in an interceptor solution to make sure they don't add red bugs to their tanks. It may be a 12 hour soak....i don't remember exactly. Check in the sps forum for more details if you're interested.

I agree with landlord if you are in a pinch, but specific reef dips will always be preferable.

You can use lugols if it's available.

Couldn't tell you the dosage but I can tell you the 3ml per liter of water for 10 minutes was enough to make them do the funky chicken to the bottom of the beaker. They writhed around for awhile but never really died. Ideally I use it in conjucntion with a jewelers loop to examine frags. The turkey baster makes quick work of the attached ones possibly becuase they are in some shock from the povidone. I dunno but it seems to get them moving.

To use as a dip for corals, in a separate bucket add 40 drops Lugol`s Solution to 1 gallon aquarium water, and immerse coral for 10-15 minutes. I'm not sure that this is a FW cure. You might want to do a seach regarding FW.
