These are pictures of my first sump! I built it a couple of weeks ago and set it up with my new tank last weekend.
I'm very happy with it so far, but I can't wait to get some chaeto for my refugium. It is a 30 gallon long, under a 90
gallon tank. The skimmer is an aqua c remora pro, that I was using on my old tank.

I never could have built this, without the help I've gotten reading this forum.

Thanks!

Talk about using all available space! :) Very clean install. looks awesome.
I also use a 30g for my sump, but i have a 75g not a 90g DT. Fits nicely.
Just a quick question, do you have enough room in the sump for the water in the tank above the overflow incase of a power outage?
If not you could lower the running level in the return section to give you a little extra room.

very nice!!!!

one question, if your sump fails, how you gonna get it out of the stand?

OceanSpray

Thanks guys!

As for the questions:

I have tested it several times to make sure it will catch all
of the water when the power is out. It only rises 2 inches
and I left 3 inches, so I have a 1 inch safety margin.

There is only 1 way to get this sump out if it fails. It has to come out the top,
which means breaking down the tank. When that
day comes, (and I hope it is a long time off), I will use the opportunity to
re-aquascape and upgrade, and re-do the sandbed etc. Pretty much the same stuff
I just did this past weekend, when I changed everything over from my non reef ready
75 gallon setup. I started on Friday night about 6 p.m.
and I finished up on Saturday night around 9 p.m. with very
little sleep the entire weekend.

When I purchased the 90 gallon tank, the previous owner was using a different stand,
and a 20 gallon long sump under it. It had plenty of left over room, but I was amazed to see,
that you still couldn't get the sump out except through the top. So I
figured I would just go with the 30, which is what I wanted, and
hope for the best on how long it lasted. I did start with a new tank, so maybe it will last a long
time if I'm careful. I may have to learn how to silicone
in tight places at some point though.

I did get some Chaeto today from my LFS. I got a fish bag stuffed full to the top for $5 bucks. Great deal!

Thanks again for the comments!:)

Yeah, take it easy on the "Nazi" book...It looks like "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", a very well know history book by an English Historian...I'm impressed with his library overall

Nice set up!
Feel at ease about the number of books on his book shelf. He'll read up and make the right decisions and not kill a bunch of coral and fish we wished we had by looking at things from more than one angle. Maybe even teach us a thing or two. I already have some new ideas of what to do with my wife's tupperware from the link.

It is, "The Rise & Fall of the Third Reich", by William Shirer, as several people pointed out.
I also have a signed copy of "Battle Cry", by Leon Uris next to it. I'm not a Nazi, I just love history.
If more people would learn how tyrants like Hitler came to power, and started marching across the world
in the first place; maybe days like June 6, 1944 will never be necessary again.

It is good to see that I'm not the only person on RC, who ever went to a book store!
I can see why the cover would shock someone though.

P.S. Where were all the book police when Hitler wrote Mein Kamph? they could have saved everyone a lot of trouble.

Nice job on the sump. I made one out of a 20 long a while back myself. I am getting ready to make a new sump with around 40 gallong capacity for my 110 and another maybe slightly larger for my 240. It'll be my first projects working with acrylic.
As far as the book though sometimes we worry about things we shouldn't. My wife is book reader also. We have so many books in the closet and attic it isn't funny. I think she had a book I saw with a swat on it that was a fictional crime book.

Book police HA!
I think they were hanging out with the tang police but Pinky and The Brain beat em to taking over the world. Naarff!
Thanks again for sharing your stuff with us. So many times I have saved so much time and money by just clicking on this site and reading everyone's posts. When I start my next build in the next month, it'll be on here too.

Haha... I was only kidding around.
Sump looks like a nice clean setup... how do you like the performance of your Remora? I had just the regular Remora (the non-Pro version) on an old 50g with a MJ1200. It produced skimmate for about a month and then for about 3 months after that it didn't produce a single drop of skimmate... and I'm not exaggerating at all.

This is a nice clean setup and it does generally look nice.

Just a few observations, FWIW ...

Are you using an auto-topoff? Looks like you have about 8-10g in the return chamber, so little risk of running dry there, although I would probably run the water level just a bit higher.

About your stand... is the interior sealed at all? If not, the wood may warp over time as it is now subjected to constant moisture.

You may also want to relocate the electric to get it away from the splash zone.

Nice hitler books.

That's pretty much identical to my sump/fuge. The difference is that I put mine in after my rubbermaid failed. I had to cut the center brace to get a 40g breeder under my tank.

can you get a pic of the return for me. the setup is beautiful. i am thinking of doing the same thing to my 60. how much did it cost you after all the parts were purchased??

I have been very happy with this skimmer and pump.
It worked very well on my 75, and after a couple of
weeks in this sump, it is starting to produce again.
I goofed it up for a few days by using filter socks that
weren't rinsed well, but it is working well again now.

My wife is purchasing me an auto-top off this weekend,
for an anniversary present!:D I'm very happy about that,
because as stated, it really needs it.

My stand isn't sealed, as I built it originally for the 75 which
didn't have a sump. If it becomes an issue, I'll have to
either seal it,
(if this can still be done without killing everything), or probably build
one with a sump in mind to begin with. That way maybe I can get the sump out
without such an ordeal.

I built the electric panel a few weeks ago, for the other system
and I wish I had done it a little different now, with this system
in mind, but I didn't really know I was going to upgrade. I just
came across a good deal on the 90 and decided to go for it.
It is unfortanately, stuck where it is. It does have GFCI on it
though. I'll just have to be careful.

The return is a Mag 7, with just flexible hose on it. I read here somewhere that you would
get less vibration noise with the flex line. Not sure if its true, but so far this one is quiet. I spent $60,
on the tank, $30 on the glass baffles, and probably another $30 or so, on assorted pvc and stuff.

Lastly, the hockey mask was a halloween thing, about 3 years ago.
I just keep it on the shelf, to remind my wife that I might have a dark side.:D Keeps her sharp!
