I have a homemade mix of different stuff to feed to my corals, and was told to shut off my skimmer and filtration, but how long should i shut it off for?

I would try 30 minutes.

I turn my skimmer off for coral feeding and leave it off for about 15 minutes with just my pumps circulating. I notice that my corals that do eat catch and retain more food this way.

When I feed my corals at night, I shut down the return pump, which cuts off flow to my sump/skimmer/fuge for 30min to an hour before restarting.

Usually while watching family guy before hitting the sack

Yeah, I know, although, I am sure like most on this board we are so paranoid about screwing up that it almost never happens.

THANKS GUYS. that is the response i was looking for. i have been turning it off for an hour, so i guess if the water quality isn't getting bad, then i am doing ok. i may cut it back to half hour like you guys recommended.

IMO it really depends on the type of feeding you're doing. When I target feed my sun cups and candy-cane trumpets I don't turn anything off since I am literally feeding each cup and head directly and they accept the food and close up right fast.

When I feed my brains (I always like saying that) I cover them with a cut in half liter bottle so they are protected and again don't shut anything off.

i have a slurry of different foods. i squirt it into the RBTA and the sun coral, and other meaty food eaters, the fish eat the excess. the food has rotifers, oyster eggs, daphnia, brine, cyclopeze, ect...in it, so that goes to feeding the SPS, which arent target fed.
