Could have been your tang trying to scrape off algea also, the acans don't look real upset about it and should recover fine as long as it doesn't continue.

Possibly the barer of bad info.

If you find the tissue receding back into the rest of the colony, you might want to frag the affected portion off. To me, it looks like an acute injury of some sort and it will likely look like new within a few weeks.

Doesn't look like the melting chalice LPs problem that was mentioned from the other thread, IMO. Looks like something is taking chunks off your acans! You may have a crab coming out at night chomping on your lords. I found 2 stone crabs and also a gorilla in my tank after losing all kinds of corals. Stayed up late one night with the flashlight and identified the problem. Getting them out was another story, but finally got em. My guess is you have a carnivore on your hands. Find and remove the culprit(s) and your corals should be okay.

After relooking at the pictures I do agree it is possible that something is nipping or eating them. But It does look like it has been healed or healing for sometime. Good luck and keep us updated.

I have had my fire shrimp eat my acans for no reason. He also went after my plate corals.

Thank you for the replies - it sits close to the front glass and I accidentally knocked it over while cleaning the glass - thats when I noticed. What are you seeing that shows it healing? just trying to understand and learn. We spot feed once a week with coral frenzy, baby brine and cyclopeeze, is once a week adequate?

Again - thanks

if you look at the injured area it looks like its all closed off and the flesh is reforming. it looks like the colors coming back and little bumps on the flesh are forming which is a sign that its healed. also the feeder tentacles are sticking out right next to the injured area. generally if its a fresh injury youll see some guys sticking out or the area will still be kind of open and not as clean looking as it is there.

Feed every other day IMO. Sometimes LPS can outgrow their skeleton if fed too often.

The acan seems to be doing ok. the white part of the damaged area is darker in color, to me it looks like the loose parts are dying off and the rest is healing. i don't know. here are some pictures.
again - thanks everyone for the help.
