Black stuff what is it HELP ASAP

there is this black stuff all over my sand bed and some of my rock it looks like a black fungus...........what is it and how do i kill it.......?

Perhaps several things- carbon dust? Matte algae that's been there too long (was your tank covered in red stuff at one point?)

Aside from attending religously to water quality (testing, doing water changes) you can possibly catch a lot of it by blowing it off with a turkey baster or powerhead.

Anything else you can tell us about it?

I have something that might be what you have. Not sure what it is though... but isn't hurting anything. its basically like a thick black mat on one of the rocks, don't know the texture looks like its the texture of a memory foam pillow

could be green slime algae or astro turf. With out pics, water parameters, or more info on your tank it's hard to say.

FWIW, I vote some form of green slime algae.

bsagecko, without pics and more info, can't tell you anything...

Da1jewfish, from your description and if yours is only on one rock, then it MIGHT be a sponge... again, without pics etc.

havent tested params in a month
it might be the carbon dust.........

i will do some maintainence today and get back with you guys tonight...........

it isnt slime algae........
