View Full Version : How often do you aquascape your tank?

I hope I'm not the only one with this disease.. I aquascaped my tank TWICE this week already! Just couldn't get that "perfect" look. My tank is relatively new but when I had a stable setup, I would still aquascape at least once in a 2-month period. Anyone else have this itch to aquascape often?

i re-aquascaped about 5 days ago and i love my new setup. that having been said, i do a total overhaul twice a year at most

never....moving things around hinders coral growth

Agree with AcroDave.

It took about 3 months of fiddling till I got the rock where I was happy with it. Now 6 months later I just leave it alone so the SPS can grow. Rarely are even put my hand in the tank.

Once I found the correct look, I left the LR alone. Now the SPS, clams, mushrooms and zoas are so established that I doubt I could pull the LR apart. I do blow the LR clean with a turkey baster to try and keep detritus to a minimum.

Once. Pillars were the best thing I ever did in my tank.

In a FOWLR, I enjoy moving things around and creating a whole new world 2-3 times per year. It gives the tank a different look. Maybe more caves one time, maybe the 2 island look another. It brings out the creative person in me and I enjoy it. It's like tending to a Japense rock garden, very rewarding. It also stirs up a lot of gunk that inevtitably gets trapped underneath; it then gets filtered out which helps with nitrate reduction. Also, when adding a new fish, I think it is a benefit to break the existing fish out of their routine spots to decrease territorial behavior and reduce stress. Again, I don't have corals to disturb.

Once in the 8+ years the tanks been set up. As mentioned, hard to reaquascape once everything is grown in.

Never. I have big rocks and it would be to much of a workout.

probably 20-30 times in the first month and then never again.

As much as I love trying to get the perfect setup, I only have the patience to do it about once every six months.

This would be better with some pictures of the new aquascapes.
I redo small parts of mine every other month or so as I get new ideas or sick what how it is.

When first setting it up I re-aquascape a bit, but once I start adding corals. No more aquascaping. =)

once. why disturb it? unless a rock or coral falls. the reef isn't being re-scaped every couple weeks.

Once you have your tank aquascaped, don't get any more live rock. That will give you the urge

I leave mine alone now that I have corals growing on it. I'm not really happy with the rocks but the corals have been doing a lot better since not being moved around.

i change my rocks once every couple months, even if i like it,i could always make it new and fresh...corals dont seem to mind after the first day or so...

Once it's set, I don't touch it.

I have a general rule that my hands don't belong in the tank and nothing should be moved once it has established itself.

My hands have not been in my tank in two months.

I'll play with it until I'm happy, then I leave it alone. Re-arranging is left for when I upgrade. I get to upgrade this weekend, so I've been dreaming up new aqua-scapes for the past 2 weeks.
