I found a great deal on a Prime Chiller 1/10 HP. It is $105 cheaper than the JBJ. My lfs store says that the JBJ is far better. I asked how and they said, they just are. You get what you pay for.

Is this true?

Thanks.

Can you provide a link to the Prime?

I have the 1/10 Prime chiller and am very happy with it so far.

This past week we have had 4 straight days of temps. In the 90's with high humidity and the chiller has been great.

I would recommend it.

this lfs owner wouldn't happen to sell jbj chillers?

I just received my jbj 1/10th chiller. I absolutely love it! Cools my tank down quickly, and keeps it there.

Mine is being controlled by my Aquacontroller 3.

What size tank you looking to put it on?

I need some chiller advice too. I have a JBJ 1/15 for a 20 gallon and will eventually upgrade to a 40 long or 55. If the 1/15 is too small, should I sell it and use the money to get a 1/10 or get another 1/15 and run them daisy chain?

I opted for the jbj arctica 1/10th for my 30long... I went soo large because the ambient temp in my apartment will reach about 100 degrees in the summer, and i won't be there to help a smaller chiller keep the tank cool.. (my tank is at college and i am home for the summer). So far it hasn't let my tank rise .1 degree above the chillers "on" point. (ac3 controlled)

If i were you, get what you can for the 1/15th, and buy a 1/10th.

I'm running a Current 1/15th on a 34G cube with a 150 HQI without problems. It has been over 110 here for about 15 days I let the house get to 88 during the day the chiller is set to 79 deg and runs about one minute out of every ten. I paid around $150 for it on ebay so I cannot complain if I were going to do it over I would get a 1/10th My tank has been set up six months and I want to upgrade to a larger tank already.

I use a Prime 1/10 on a 34g Solana with 150HQI. Very quiet when it's running and it keeps the temp stable where I want it. It was a lot less expensive than the JBJ. I think the one advantage of the JBJ is that you don't have to remove two screws to get the air filter out to clean it. I'm ok with removing two screws every 6 - 12 months to save real money.

I haven't had it that long, so I can't speak to long term durability, but I couldn't find any reports of chiller failures when I was looking.

my current runs strong all day.
maybe the more expensive model gives off less heat????not sure.

don't you love lfs guys who give answers like "they just are".

I have the current prime 1/15 model and the only issue I have with the design is that it takes some fairly substantial water flow to run efficiently. When I put a weaker pump on it, it would cycle on and off far too often.

you need like a maxijet 1200 or 900
