View Full Version : Issues with Red Dragon Pumps on the MINIS...?

Wow--I am now freaked about buying a BK Mini. I have had two--count them two!--resellers tell me to hold off on buying a mini, that some pump issues have shown up across the line with Royal Exclusiv's smaller Red Dragons used in the minis... I mean, YIKES, when you have the resellers cautious about selling the product, that speaks VOLUMES...!

Yes, they are under warranty, but you still have to go skimmerless till it's fixed. And if the pumps are failing only a few months after purchase, what's the long term reliability going to be like--and have you seen the replacement costs for these pumps?! YIPES!!

I think my heart is really a little broken--I really liked the ease of operation these minis seem to offer. I've never seen a skimmer where so many post-purchase owners really talk about it being "set and forget". Not having to futz with adjusting the skimmer seemed like an impossible dream to me, but more than one mini owner has sworn that since breaking their minis in, they haven't touched them in 3 months...!

I would really enjoy hearing from from Chris at Proline, Royal Exclusiv USA, about what the low-down is here... Rumors are one thing, but when the actual resellers involved are talking this way...?!

I dont think its professional for a reseller to act this way.
Maybe they get more money selling other skimmers?
Sounds like theres a movtive behind it if ya ask me. JMO though.
2 year warrantee on pumps and lifetime on bearings.
What other skimmer company does that?
Proline is top notch about representing BK and taking care of the problems.
Thats 2 more pumps i have heard of failing on the mini's.
You shuld let proline know who's saying this as i know i would not want that retailor representing my products, or worse if i was a customer of that store i would not buy a BK from them.

Alex
You nailed it .
Unfortunately most companies engage in negative advertising ,however we completely stay away from making comments about other products,a good products shine on it's own performance .

As for the BK minis ,since August last year we have sold in excess of 500 Mini Bks ,I looked @ the RMA for that category in our Data base 3 pumps have been replaced & 4 impellers exchanged.
One pump was exchanged because of clogged nozzle ,not letting enough water through.
One pump leaked current in water(faulty wire)
One pump had restart problem.
out of 4 impellers sent out one was broken by the customer during cleaning .
The ratio is less than 1 in 100 .
Maybe you should compare that to some other brands on the market.
Thank you
Proline

Thanks for the info, Chris, that makes me feel much better... This is a hobby where even one incident can escalate with word of mouth, and just plain gossip; and that's what is so great about these sponsor forums here on RC--getting the low down, the actual statistics from the distributors database...

And I truly thank you for that...
